Butterfly Art From the Soul!

This is a compilation of a series of butterflies created at a time in my life when I literally needed wings!

My then inner-turmoil translated into the images seen in this video/slideshow. We could call this "experimental art" as each section was really fabricated fragment by fragment, not the style I usually enjoy! A mix of decoupage, virtual painting, chiseling using a few plugins and a mouse, a rather long process in fact! Somehow it developed into pieces reminding me of decors used in operettas (a genre of light opera in some parts of Europe.) Was I subconsciously "watching" my life unraveling under my eyes like a spectator at a theatre? Probably yes as I had little control over what was happening at the time.

Somehow, all feelings, despair, suffering, even wishes were transforming into these quite colorful and glorious butterflies, most of them rising or trying to rise above it all, with hope and strength? Butterflies as symbols often mean rebirth/transformation undergone by our own souls. Symbolic creatures in many cultures, standing in some contexts for beauty, metamorphosis and in others for the transitory nature of happiness. Also in terms of the Hero’s Journey, the butterfly’ struggle to get out of the cocoon can be seen as the Dark Night of the Soul. It seemed to apply to this specific period in my life.

So here they are, the bright butterflies who spiritually carried me in times of great need. They will be cherished for the rest of my life.
